About How Does Your Garden Grow Ministry
I wanted to give you a little back story on how we got started.
I was taught to sew and crochet from a early age. Sewing & Crocheting is a lost art in the younger generations and my goal was to teach my children someday. And so, I did. My daughter loves to crochet and makes beautiful blankets, poncho’s and much more. She does this to help her relax and deal with anxiety. I too sew because it is relaxing to me and it is something I can do. Finding a job that fits my needs, due to my health, is hard and so we started selling what we were making.
We attend our local Baptist Church that has a ministry of a Food Pantry and a Baby Pantry that serves our community. I love that we can share the Gospel to those that come in and so far, thru GOD we have been able to bless around 300 families a month.
Last year working became very difficult for me. I had to quit my job and stay home. I can’t just sit around, I get stir crazy, so I started sewing a blanket and then another and then another. God was hearing me pray about my ability to work and how I miss being able to help with the bills at home. I asked the Lord, “What can I do Lord?” And God spoke to me (not audibly) but said, “Use my talents I have given you for me.” I had been reading in my bible (Matthew 25:14-30) about the talents and how one was given 5 talents and turned it into 10, one was given 2 talents and increased to 4 and one man was given 1 talent and hid it to keep it safe, that was selfish of him. None of the men received more than they could handle. The talents represent any kind of resources (Your talents and skills). We are responsible to use what God has given us. It’s not how much we are given but how we use what we have. I heard God say to me to use what talents he has given me for his glory. So, I started sewing bibs, blankets, burp rags, etc.. to donate to the baby ministry (something I have a passion and heart for). I had several people comment that I should sell them. I brushed that off. Well, I started to pray and ask for Gods guidance and wisdom on the matter. He opened a few doors for me and so my mission to help the pantry began to grow. I decided, to be able to bless others I needed to sell what I could to buy more material to make more for the church.
So here we are today. For every two things I make for the church I make to sell. This is what we set out to do. This sometimes feels impossible, and it makes me think that I can’t do it. I don’t want to let the Lord down. But I think of the scripture in Matthew 17:20 “and Jesus said unto them, because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you. If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
I get renewed in my faith daily, which is strong, and deep in the Lord like the Mustard plant. I may be a small fry in this thing called life, BUT my God is mighty and I see that mountain of items for the church and I have faith that I can do all I can to be that example of a Christian that Christ wants me to be.
We truly appreciate you and your support! May our products bring you joy and please come back again,
